The Red 8 has two channels of the ultimate mic pre-amp for stereo recording (Half a Red 1). Designed for high-bit recordings using high quality ribbon, valve and condensor mics, the Red 1 and Red 8 offer the best route to a cost-effective input stage. As the first stage in the audio chain, the mic pre-amp isperhaps the most important. The Luhndahl transformers used in the Red 1 & Red 8 pre-amps are quite simply, the best money can buy. The Red pre-amp circuitry offers extremely low noise and distortion, & delivers a smooth, detailed sound across its very wide bandwidth. Mic gain is controlled by rotary switches, provided for accuracy and easy channel matching. Phantom power and respectively, four and two channels of ultra-high quality Focusrite microphone amplification. Used with high quality ribbon, valve and condensor mics, the Red 1 and Red 8 obtain outstanding results with all sound sources but especially voice, piano and string instruments. With four mic pre-amps in a single unit, the Red 1 is ideal for upgrading the inputs of existing studio consoles, or for location multi-mic recordings. Each channel offers switchable phantom power, phase reverse, an easily-read illuminated VU meter, and a handy scribble disc. Mic gain is switched in 6dB steps over a 66dB range, for accurate and precise channel matching. The Red 8, with a perfectly matched pair of mic amps, offers identical channel controls to the Red 1, and is especially suited to demanding stereo recording work such as location classical recording with a 24 bit recording medium. Among the benefits of the unique Focusrite mic amp topology are superb common-mode rejection, a good overload margin, Mic gain is controlled by rotary switches, provided for accuracy and easy channel matching. Phantom power and phase reverse are selected by illuminated push-button switches activating relays. The Red 1 and 8 offer, respectively, four and two channels of ultra-high quality Focusrite microphone amplification. Using the same circuit topology as the original ISA mic pre designs, the Red 1 and 8 offer respectively, four and two channels of ultra-high quality Focusrite microphone amplification. Used with high quality ribbon, valv and condensor mics, the Red 1 and Red 8 obtain outstanding results with any sound source, but especially voice, piano and string instruments.
